Our Mission
The UCLA Weintraub Center for Reconstructive Biotechnology and the Division of Advanced Prosthodontics are home to innovative scientists and clinicians who share a common goal:
Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral, head and neck tissue defects
The Division of Advanced Prosthodontics
The Division of Advanced Prosthodontics is among the top prosthodontics departments in the world. The Division features three highly synergistic academic sections of Prosthodontics, Special Patient Care, and Biomaterials Science. The Division prepares future leaders in the most advanced, complex oral rehabilitation and involves fixed, removable, implant, and maxillofacial prosthodontics, and the management of patients with severe medical conditions requiring in-depth integration with hospital-based medical teams. World renowned faculty in this division and its sections are charged with predoctoral and postdoctoral training, research, clinical patient care, and community service consistent with the mission of the UCLA School of Dentistry. The Division's clinical and basic science faculty collaborate to solve clinical problems in the world class Weintraub Center.
The Weintraub Center for Reconstructive Biotechnology
The Weintraub Center for Reconstructive Biotechnology is unlike any other translational research center in the world. It is home to cutting-edge advances at the interface of engineering, biology and medicine that are being translated into important breakthroughs in patient care. A major focus of the Weintraub Center is the development of advanced technologies for regenerative medicine, cancer therapeutics, immune modulation, drug delivery, implants, sensing and imaging.
Biomedical science now stands on the threshold of a new and uncharted era of discovery which promises to revolutionize the treatment of facial defects. Advances in stem cell biology, gene editing, personalized medicine, and advanced biomanufacturing, are accelerating our ability to repair the devastation caused by birth defects, cancer, or trauma. The impact of such an achievement will be remarkable and far-reaching.
